

A Basque/Mexican-American native of San Diego, California, Bernadette Mirentxu Torres began her dance training at the age of six at the Ballet Conservatory in Chula Vista. She continued her training at the San Diego School of Ballet and for three years trained specifically in the Vaganova method at San Diego Academy of Ballet. Bernadette attended several summer dance intensive programs, most notably American Ballet Theatre-New York, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Houston Ballet where she was offered a year-round scholarship, and, most recently, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
Bernadette’s professional dance experience includes performances with San Diego Ballet, San Diego Dance Theatre, Malashock Dance, The Garage, LaDiego Dance Theatre, Encinitas Ballet, San Gorgonio Ballet, and Ballet Noroeste de Mexico. As a member of AGMA, she has also performed with the San Diego Opera and the San Diego Symphony.
Her repertoire includes the principal/soloist roles of Kitri in Don Quixote, Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, Nikiya and Gamzatti in La Bayadere, Esmeralda in the title role, Odalisque in Le Corsaire, Grand Pas Classique, soloist in Mambomania, soloist in Shakespeare’s Sonnets, soloist in Joplinesque, Paquita in the title role, Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, principal in Mexican, Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Concerto Barocco, the Waltz in Les Sylphides, Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, and Raymonda in the title role.
Bernadette competed in the Youth America Grand Prix Finals-New York (2006) and the World Ballet Competition-Orlando (2007 & 2008) coached by her friend and mentor, Ms. Ahita Ardalan, of Les Ballets de Monte Carlo.
She recognizes, with much appreciation, training she received from Dame Sonia Arova, Thor Sutowski, Ahita Ardalan, Maxim and Sylvia Tcherneychev, Jean Isaacs, John Malashock, Michael Mizerany, Nancy Raffa, Minerva Tapia, Kenneth Von Heidecke, Leslie Brown, Daniel Baudendistel, Sally Rojas, Barbara Bears, Lauren Anderson, Dawn Scannell, Abbie Siegel, Judy Sharp, Maxine Mahon, Denise Dabrowski, Gail Wingfield, Tatiana and Valeri Tchekacheva, and Claudio Munoz.
